John Cleary teaches in the Languages Department at a university in Edinburgh, Scotland and is Co-Administrator of ICFA’s Y-Chromosome DNA project. He has been involved in genetic genealogy for a number of years, participating in surname projects and giving talks on the subject. He was able to join members and present programs at the 2019 ICFA Reunion in Salem, Massachusetts. He is a contributor to “Tracing your Ancestors using DNA: a guide for family historians” (2019, Pen and Sword Books). John’s program provides a wide-ranging update on ICFA’s seven-year-old Y-Chromosome DNA Project including new findings about the early origins of Isaac’s male English ancestors.
Tim Cummings is a retired Navy Commander Meteorologist and Oceanographer and the Co-Administrator of ICFA’s Y-Chromosome DNA project. After a life on the sea, he had a second career as a Systems Engineer in the private sector. He cultivates many hobbies in his retirement, especially working with the latest in genetic genealogy technology focusing on both Y chromosome and autosomal testing. He has been an active genealogist since 2013 and is an Administrator/Co-Administrator on 4 Family Tree DNA projects, assisting others to learn more about their ancestry through DNA and family histories. Tim joins John to present new findings from ICFA’s Y-Chromosome Project.
Susan Kurtz Thompson is a retired Registered Health Information Manager and ICFA’s Vice President/Digital Records And Collections She moved extensively while her father was in the Navy until he retired in Texas where she attended college, married and raised a family. She has been trying to discover her family's genealogy for more than three decades and became involved with genetic testing when it was introduced to the genealogy community. Currently she is busy volunteering in her neighborhood, attending genealogy and DNA conferences, working on associated projects, and enjoying her family. Susan’s presentation is titled “Autosomal DNA: How Does it Help with Genealogy Research?”
Sandra Hildreth Ball is a retired CPA who worked in corporate financial management. She has been researching her ancestry since 1990 and served as Treasurer of the Association of Professional Genealogists, Treasurer and Vice Regent of her local DAR Chapter, Registrar of the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy. She also teaches genealogy classes. She has published three books on her family groups and more books are forthcoming. She also published an article in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register correcting the parentage of her 5th Great Grandfather, resulting in a new connection to Mayflower Ancestor, Francis Cooke. The title of Sandra’s presentation is: “Fidelia Dunn Cummings, Letters from the Wisconsin Frontier.”
